2024 MUVC TRAINING PROGRAM
THEME: “A PACKET OF LIGHT”
All cameras require correct exposure to the available light to deliver quality imaging. This is true
of videography just as much as photography. In fact, in videography there is an extra element -
frame rate - which, whilst strictly speaking is not an element of correct exposure, is nonetheless
directly related.
So, for the first half of 2024 we’ll concentrate on the basics of exposure, and discover just how
a camcorder captures “A PACKET OF LIGHT”.
These “packets” are made up of the following components:
APERTURE
SHUTTER SPEED
SENSOR SENSITIVITY (ISO or dB gain)
WHITE BALANCE (the QUALITY of the light rather than the QUANTITY)
FRAME RATE
Once we’re familiar with these elements of exposure we’ll put them to the test during our
Canberra field trip, where the challenge, for those who would like,
is to film entirely in MANUAL MODE.
Are you up for it? Hopefully the answer is YES!
